AISA goes full STEAM ahead

AISA fully endorses STEAM, an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student enquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.

Rather than teaching these disciplines as separate and disconnected, STEAM integrates them into ‘interdependent’ learning units based on real-world applications.

Global skill shortages in STEAM-related fields are redefining educational priorities. AISA encourages its member schools to incorporate STEAM-based learning programmes to further equip their students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing and uncertain world. AISA believes that STEAM learning will not only produce tomorrow’s designers and engineers, but it will also develop innovative mindsets, ensuring that Africa’s international school students become creators of technology, not just passive consumers.

Using STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century.

In 2020, AISA partnered with TGR Foundation, a Tiger Woods Charity offering award-winning STEM curricula, college-access programmes, digital platforms and educator professional development. Through this partnership, our member schools get access to STEM-focused resources professional learning opportunities,
