AISA has developed a number of student events, scholarships and awards in order to acknowledge and celebrate the awesome students that we ultimately endeavour to serve.
So, though AISA is all about developing the leaders and educators at AISA member schools, it is ultimately about enriching the learning and school experience of all students within the AISA community.
Each year, in partnership with the Margaret Sanders Foundation, AISA is pleased to offer the opportunity for schools from within the AISA network to nominate outstanding students for Margaret Sanders International Scholarship and Margaret Sanders AISA Scholarship for Girls.
Born in 1910, Margaret Sanders was a pioneer for her time, holding roles as varied as advertising designer, writer, air traffic controller, photographer and international yearbook representative. Her career with Walsworth Publishing Company began in 1961 and during the subsequent four decades, she travelled the world assisting schools with the publication of their yearbooks. This exciting career afforded her the opportunity to develop a close identification with overseas “American/ International” schools and their diverse and interesting populations.
Margaret passed away in June 2009, leaving a legacy of giving through her scholarship fund in perpetuity.
Past scholarship winners have come from international schools in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Hungary, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sultanate of Oman, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Viet Nam, and Zimbabwe.
Each year AISA offers full member school two separate scholarship opportunities:
AISA launched the award in 2008 to recognise and reward the achievements of outstanding students in AISA member schools. The award is bestowed upon any final year student who can demonstrate high academic results and whose character exemplifies the association’s values. Each school is invited to submit one application.
Nominations are due no later than 1 March of each year with the AISA Board confirming the successful candidates at the March Board meeting. Schools are then free to award recipients at the end of year school celebrations.
Each AISA full member school is invited to nominate one student each year to be considered for this award. The student must be in his/her final year of high school.
Nomination for 2021-22 student scholarships and awards is now closed.
This award is for a student service leader(s) who is able to demonstrate a commitment to their community and how he/she has used learning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address an expressed community need.
The student(s) must be able to demonstrate:
Up to three US$1,500 awards will be granted to a school in recognition of a student or a group of students who demonstrate their service and commitment to the community. The school may choose to allocate this funding to a project or make this available for students to attend the AISA Global Issues Service Summit (GISS). Students will receive a plaque and letter from AISA in recognition of their outstanding achievement.
Each AISA Full Member school is invited to nominate a student/group of students each year to be considered for this award.
Nomination for 2021-22 student scholarships and awards is now closed.
This award is for a service learning project that may be run by an individual student or group of students whose project has a direct benefit to a community, as opposed to specific people or an individual. The project may address environmental issues, construct infrastructure that will benefit a community, involve the restoration of a community space or asset, or respond to a direct need in a community (eg. food, clothing, or book distribution). There are many types of projects that may fall into this category, so let your imagination run wild.
Prize money is awarded to the school to enable them to develop or grow a community service project.
Nomination for 2021-22 student scholarships and awards is now closed.
